Proverbs 2:1-8 (NIV)

“My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding - indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”

The availability of heavenly wisdom should not remove the necessity of our diligence to seek it. So often we rely on what we see, hear and feel in the natural and we negate the fact that we need to actually ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom. The particle "if" is conditional, and serves to remind us of the conditions upon which the promise depends.

6:8 - “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for He guards the course of the just and protects the way of His faithful ones."

Seeking God’s wisdom helps anchor our lives as it reminds us to move away from self-sufficiency and narcissistic ambition. It allows us to seek divine perspective, insight and inspiration. To continually cry out to God for guidance and provision, we not only align our hearts and posture to His will for our lives, we also come under His guard and protection.

As we step into conference this coming week, let’s prepare to lean in to His presence, but also let’s be diligent in praying for instruction and seeking His wisdom and guidance.
